Nike Air Huarache OG

Nike Air Huarache OG

Nike Air Huarache OG

After 22 years, the Nike Air Huarache is back! The iconic runner is set to return in two original colourways: white/sport turquoise/university gold, and white/game royal/dynamic pink; being released in very limited runs this Friday February 22.

It’s no surprise to see many of our favourite sneakers from the 80s and 90s remade and marketed as retro re-releases these days. The Nike Air Huarache however, is one style that hasn’t seen a comeback in its original colourway since its debut back in 91.

Brought to life by legendary designer and architect, Tinker Hatfield, the Huarache is inspired by Native American sandals. Its design centres on the interior bootie that’s made from neoprene and spandex to hug the foot similar to that of a sock. It provides superior comfort while being supported by thermoplastic heel counter and strap.

While we’re super pumped to see one of our favourite shoes return, we’re pretty unhappy that Nike has failed to keep the overall shape of the shoe on par with the original. Early pairs show an oversized and rounded toebox, and chunky finish to the shoe. Is this going to stop anyone from trying to get a pair? Probably not.

You’ll be able to find them at Size? and Solebox.

New Balance M574 ‘Backpack’ Collection

The M574 is arguably one of the most popular New Balance shoe models. It’s so loved in fact, it’s often the first model of choice when it comes to collaborations and special editions. Not to be disappointed this time around, we’ve been tempted with the ‘Backpack’ Collection. This collection features the M574 in five different colours — black, orange, green, red, and blue.

Featuring tan suede details, the upper of the M574 is constructed from ballistic nylon, this is similar to what you’ll find on your everyday carry backpack. Each shoe also comes with its own backpack in the same colourway and matching detailing.

Look for the New Balance M574 ‘Backpack’ Collection in retail stores this August.

Air Jordan XI Low – White/Varsity Red

It’s been over a decade since a new pair of patent leather Air Jordan XI in a low cut graced our presence, but now they’re back. The Air Jordan XI Low White/Varsity Red has been thrown in the middle of some highly anticipated releases.

Featuring traditional Chicago Bulls colour highlights, this classic white shoe comes wrapped in a pure white patent leather across the mid-section and toe cap.

The Air Jordan XI is the most popular model in the Air Jordan line and, with a clean-cut colourway like this, no one is expecting them to stay on the shelves for long.

The official release date is this Saturday May 5, but they can be found online earlier.

Nike’s new Twitter RSVP system

‘Camp outs’ is a common term to the avid sneaker collector. It seems however, fresh nights spent out in the cold queuing for a chance to get your hands on a pair of new release sneakers looks all but set to come to an end with the release of a new RSVP system.

In light of recent riots in Orlando, USA, over the limited release of the Nike Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ Edition, Nike and Twitter have joined forces to create a RSVP system to ensure customer safety. The system will allow people to reserve their desired pair of sneakers via Twitter to ensure that, come release day, all sizes available will be allocated with no need for mass line ups.

The RSVP system is set to be simple and straight forward. Nike will designate a date where, at any time, they’ll let customers reserve their sought after shoes. Any orders made in time will be secured once Nike has responded to the customer with a confirmation. To further ensure the safety of shoppers and retailers, Nike has also banned midnight releases.

Whether camping out for sneakers was just part of the collector’s challenge in your eyes, or a painstaking process to get your hands on a pair of sneakers — the new RSVP system strives to keep everyone in the game, happy.
